Earthquake!

Cleveland's Public Square shook yesterday when a 5.0 earthquake hit about 1:45 EDT yesterday. It was centered in Canada, but no trembling occurred here at WCLV, which is located southeast of downtown in Warrensville Heights.

On the other hand, when you spend your workday in soundproof studios, who knows what is going on out there?

  1. Which brings to mind: Does classical music have any songs that would correlate to an earthquake? If I was still in radio, as soon as it was over I would have played [providing the building was still standing] "Shake, Rattle & Roll" by Bill Hailey and The Comets [or Big Joe Turner] and "All Shook Up' by Elvis Presley, "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On" by Jerry Lee Lewis. What would a classical station play?

  2. Classical generally doesn't have pieces that are that word- or event-specific, though a listener suggests this passage from Handel's "Messiah":

"Thus saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts: Yet once in a little while and I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all nations; and the desire of all nations shall come."

It's not exactly Jerry Lee Lewis, but what is?
